Essential properties for a roof

The South African National Building Regulations (SANS 4.2) states that: Any roof covering and waterproofing system, or part thereof must:

  • Resist the penetration of rain – at least to the extent that any water which may penetrate the roof is of sufficient intensity to run down the inside surface of the roof or walls, or drip onto the ceiling or floor. In other words there should be no roof leaks which allow water to penetrate the inside of the house.
